Honor Ensembles for Mustang Choir Students

Mustang Public Schools encourages choir students to pursue excellence and artistic growth through participation in several prestigious honor ensembles at the regional and state level. These ensembles offer opportunities for musical achievement, collaboration, and recognition, supporting both student learning and their development as leaders and artists.

Oklahoma Choral Directors Association (OkCDA) Honor Choirs

OkCDA organizes All-State honor choirs designed for students at multiple grade levels.
     -Junior High Mixed Chorus
     -Junior High Treble Chorus
     -High School Show Choir
     -Vocal Jazz Ensemble

Selection is via audition, and membership brings the opportunity to rehearse and perform with accomplished peers and distinguished guest conductors.
Participation is sanctioned by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) and upholds high standards of academic and musical achievement.

Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OkMEA) Honor Choirs

OkMEA hosts All-State choral ensembles for the state’s most dedicated and talented singers:
     -High School Treble Chorus
     -High School Mixed Chorus
-Intercollegiate Honor Choir (for advanced high school and college musicians)
-Children’s All-State Chorus (for eligible elementary students)

Students earn their place through a rigorous audition process, with rehearsals and performances at the OkMEA Winter Conference alongside leading choral educators.
Participation in these ensembles challenges students to reach new heights in artistry and teamwork, while also fostering essential life skills such as leadership, discipline, and collaboration—a hallmark of the Mustang Public Schools Fine Arts experience.

Support

The Choral program in Mustang Public Schools has a strong tradition, marked with excellence and success - both for individuals and choirs. 5th-12th grade students qualify for the All-State choirs on a regular basis, and every director works hard to provide not only exceptional opportunities, but exceptional experiences in their everyday classrooms. The teachers in Mustang work well as a team, collaborating, stretching themselves and each other, and supporting one another at every level. Students have opportunities to participate in traditional choirs, as well as jazz and show choirs at the upper level. Teachers provide extra support and tutoring for students on a regular basis, and students are encouraged to excel at whatever level they are at.

Mustang High School Varsity Choir and Canyon Ridge Intermediate Honor Choir have both auditioned and been accepted to perform at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association Annual Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma. All choirs at the middle and high school levels compete yearly at district and state contests, and regularly receive the highest ratings in both performance and sight-reading.
